2025 Season 2 MOCS Showcase This Sunday, October 12 at 9 a.m. PT on YouTube & Twitch

Eight of Magic Online’s top players have earned the right to battle for their share of $50,000 & two invitations to the 2026 Magic World Championship in the 2025 MOCS Season 2 Showcase. The event itself will be held this weekend. This is the pinnacle of competition on MTGO, so be sure to tune in!

Catch all the action in Vintage Cube and Modern with the casting crew of Corey Baumeister, Eli Kassis, and Hall of Famer Reid Duke! Coverage starts Sunday, October 12 at 9 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC) only on www.Twitch.tv/Magiconline & MTGO channel on YouTube.

Vintage vs. Type 1 Raises $27,500!

The MTGO team was proud to provide rewards for a successful weekend of fundraising with one of Magic’s most prominent personalities, Brian David-Marshall. Vintage vs Type 1 raised $27,500 for Brakthrough T1D Play, the gaming arm of Breakthrough T1D, the leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization.

The ultimate winners of the Trophy Race were CalebDMTG with 10 Trophies (most trophies) and Reid Duke with $7,140  (most money raised). If you donated $15 or more to either of these players’ campaigns, you’ll receive the event-exclusive Breathrough avatar later this week!

For those of you who have not yet redeemed your Common Event Tokens for a free Vintage Cube draft, you still have some time until this League run ends on Wednesday, October 22.

Donors who were rewarded with All-Access will see that perk continue until next Monday, October 13 at 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). As usual, if you are in a Constructed tournament or League with cards not in your Collection when All-Access ends, you are permitted to finish that match (but not the entire event or League course).

Through the Omenpaths Events Rotate Tomorrow

One set of experiments with alternative event structures will conclude tomorrow.

• The Pick-2 Draft League will wrap up as scheduled.
• The Sealed League will continue until October 29 as planned.
• The 8-Player, Pick-1 queue will move to a League format and begin earlier than first announced. It starts tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) and runs until October 22. It will feature the normal entry options (including 3 OM1 Boosters + 2 Event Tickets), but the prize structure will be different:
  • 3-0 – 120 Play Points, 5 OM1 boosters, and 2 Season 3 QPs
  • 2-1 – 3 OM1 boosters
  • 1-2 – 1 OM1 booster

ALL THINGS CUBE

CubeCon 2025 – October 16-19

Magic Online is proud to partner with CubeCon, the world’s largest gathering of competitive Cube players. This year’s event will be held Thursday-Sunday, October 16-19 in Madison, Wisconsin. For ticket information as well as which Cubes will be played, visit cubecon.org.

For the third year in a row, MTGO will be providing digital prizes to players who finish in the Top 128 of the CubeCon Main Event, as well additional goodies for all CubeCon attendees! The Top 8 will draft a real-life version of MTGO’s Vintage Cube (not for keeps, though).

Vintage Cube League Continues

In one of the quicker turnarounds we’ve ever had, the Vintage Cube will be back again to support this weekend’s MOCS Showcase (see item above).

PREMIER PLAY

It's Showcase Challenge Weekend

MOCS Season 3 rolls on, so it’s time to qualify more players for the next round of Showcase Qualifiers in December. 

It takes 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points to enter a Showcase Challenge. The Top 8 finishers in each event earn a Championship Entry Token for the event’s format plus earn Leaderboard Points toward an At-Large berth in the next Showcase!

Be sure to review the MTGO Calendar as this season’s Showcase Challenges do not follow the normal cadence.

EVENT UPDATES

Limited Scheduled Event Rotation

We continue our rotation back through recent sets to feature in Limited Preliminary and Challenge events. Starting tomorrow, Aetherdrift will take its turn at the wheel for one week.

Pack Wars! Throne of Eldraine Starts Tomorrow

Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but on MTGO it’s Pack Wars! This format is up and running and our next set in the spotlight will be Throne of Eldraine.

There are two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats: a Keeper Swiss League, and a 2-Player Phantom Queue.

Wilds of Eldraine runs until Wednesday, October 22, then another set will take over!

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• Now Until October 22 – These are the weeks where the Vintage Cube League returns to support the next MOCS Showcase broadcast this Sunday, October 12! (Phantom)
• October 22-November 18 – Season of the Cube!
• October 22-29: Chris Wolf’s Supremely Vintage Cube (a special card list optimized for the pick-2-and-discard format)
• October 29-November 5: Frank Lepore returns for year three of his Halloween Horror Cube
• November 5-12: The best that MTGO Creators have to offer will be featured in Creator Cube
• November 12-18: The favorite Cube from the format’s largest convention gets time in the limelight in CubeCon Cube

Card Fixes

• Endless Whispers will reanimate creatures to the correct side of the battlefield.
• Inquisition of Kozilek will no longer cause multiplayer games to reset.
• The Terminus of Return’s type line will match its tabletop printing.

NEXT SCHEDULED DOWNTIME – November 12, 9 a.m.-Noon

The next scheduled maintenance is Wednesday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to noon PT (16:00-19:00 UTC). This is to support the release of Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender.
