By The Magic Online Team

It’s time to rocket to the very edge of the Multiverse to a whole new kind of Magic! Edge of Eternities (set code EOE) debuts on Magic Online next Tuesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (17:00 UTC)

The downtime to add this set to MTGO will happen tomorrow, July 23, from 9 a.m. to approximately 12 noon Pacific time (16:00-19:00 UTC). Be sure to follow our social media outlets (Discord, BlueSky and more) to keep real-time tabs on this release.

Features of the upcoming couple months include a tabletop convention favorite format appearing on MTGO for the first time, awesome premium effects – Viewport lands and Galaxy foils, another round of Vintage Cube, and more …

How to Collect and Play Edge of Eternities

Play Boosters

Each EOE Play Booster will sell for $3.99 USD in the MTGO Store starting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT and contains 1-3 rare/mythics.

For this set, the composition is:

Premium Boosters

The MTGO-exclusive Premium Booster is back! As usual, we have changed up quantities and pricing for this set.

EOE Draft Bundle

The Draft Bundle is back with Edge of Eternities.

Thie idea is “Buy 3, Pay Less” – plus get an avatar! The Draft Bundle will sell for $32.00 USD in the MTGO Store starting next Tuesday. That represents a $4 savings off buying Event Tickets to cover those events.

The Draft Bundle contains three Draft Entry Tokens which can be used to enter the Edge of Eternities Draft League during its first three weeks, plus this set’s avatar exclusive to this product: Starfield Shepherd!

Neither the Bundle nor its contents are tradeable.

Edge of Eternities Commander

This set has two new Commander decks for you to enjoy (set code EOC). Each deck features 12 brand-new cards plus a suite of reprints. The decks will sell for $29.99 USD each in the MTGO Store starting next Tuesday. They are:

Premium Effects - Out of this World!

Galaxy Foils

An old fan favorite finally makes its debut on Magic Online! Galaxy foils have been a stunning treatment in paper Magic for years, and our team has worked hard to capture that same "out of this world" brilliance for the release of Edge of Eternities. Whether you're a collector of blinged-out cards or just love showing off your deck in style, we hope this treatment delivers the cosmic shine you're seeking!

Viewport Lands

Stepping beyond the boundaries of what's possible in paper, we've fully embraced the core motif of these Viewport Land cards. Each one simulates a portal - seamlessly transitioning between a view of deep space and the scenic vista from the original art. We hope this interactive effect adds an extra layer of wonder to your lands and brings a new dimension to your digital play experience.

Event Updates

Pack Wars! Mini-Master Comes to MTGO

Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but on MTGO it’s Pack Wars! This format debuts during tomorrow’s downtime and our first format of choice is Aetherdrift.

You’ll find Pack Wars as its own tab in the Limited section of the game. There will be two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats:

Keeper Bo1 Double-Elimination League
Entry Options – 4 Event Tickets, 40 Play Points, or 1 Aetherdrift Booster + 30 Play Points
Format – Best-of-One matches, up to 4 matches. 10 minutes per player per match. Cards opened in this event will be added to your Collection.

Start with 1 Aetherdrift Play Booster and 10 basic lands. The minimum deck size is 24, so simply put all the cards down into the main deck (and tinker with the land mix if you want), click Submit, and off you go! This is your deck for Round 1 where you play one game. Each player receives 10 minutes on their timer and one free mulligan.

After that round, you get to open another Aetherdrift pack and adjust your deck down to the minimum size of 24 cards, re-shaping the lands to your precise build. Then battle another player at the same stage of the event. Continue in this manner – adding more packs and enhancing your deck – up to a total of four rounds.

Prizes:

Phantom 1v1 Bo1 Queue
Entry Options - 2 Event Tickets or 20 Play Points
Prizes – Winning Player gets 30 Play Points, Losing Player gets 5 Play Points

When the event starts, you’re presented with a Sealed pool of 10 basic lands and a single 14-card pack. The minimum deck size is 24, so simply put all the cards down into the main deck (and tinker with the land mix if you want), click Submit, and off you go!

Each player gets 10 minutes for this single game with one free mulligan. Easy peasy quick fun!

We’ll rotate the Magic set every few weeks during EOE season and see how the community likes it. Depending on the set used, we may adjust the event structure – be sure to follow our Weekly Blog here on MTGO.com or our Discord channel for the details.

Standard Rotation

As a reminder, Standard will rotate when Edge of Eternities goes on sale next Tuesday. The following sets will no longer be legal as of 10 a.m. PT on that day:

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Through the Omenpaths. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

Vintage Championship Week + All-Access in September

Mark your calendar for mid-September for two very important events:

September 8-14 is Vintage Championship Week – the same format as last week’s Pioneer events.

To support lots of people playing Vintage at once, as well as to help players testing for the Pro Tour in Atlanta at the end of September, we’re offering All-Access from Monday, September 8 until the release of Through the Omenpaths for $25 USD. We’ll provide full details in the days leading up to it.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

We have a few small changes coming with tomorrow downtime that should help improve your experience in Magic Online:

Display Deck Contents in Store

When viewing a Precon Deck or Bundle in the Store, clicking the Show Contents button at the bottom will display the objects inside.

Open Sealed Product Right Away

When you add a sealed product to your Collection via Trade or Store purchase, you will be able to right-click and open that product immediately rather than doing so from the Collection scene.

More Descriptive Text Resolving Mana Payments

The Prompt Box will provide better detail on what you are paying for when resolving abilities such as Mana Leak.

Magic Online Players Rewards (MOPR) Update

Here’s what is coming up in MOPR.

The grant on this Friday, August 1 covers July activity. It will feature all of the etched Promo Pack uncommons from EOE as well as a number of commons/uncommons off our Commander Backlog (mostly from Jumpstart 2022), all in foil.

Then on September 2, we’ll reward August play with brand-new MTGO promo cards – the 5 Tarkir common tri-lands (Nomad Outpost and friends) in a retro frame, all in foil.

For more information on earning Player Rewards, click here.

Treasure Chest Update

Treasure Chests will update when TDM goes on sale next Tuesday – be sure to watch our Twitter/X (@MagicOnline) and our Discord channel to confirm this before opening Chests.

For full details on the changes to come, check out the information page when it updates later this week. Many of your Booster Fun favorites will be available via the Treasure Chest – see the chart above.

After next Tuesday, the next Treasure Chest update will occur on Wednesday, August 27.

Avatars

We have another new set of Avatars to show you!

New accounts created between next Tuesday and September 23 will receive the Ragost, Deft Gastronaut avatar.

Then it’s time to bestow some Prestige! As usual, you get five points for each Competitive trophy you earn in Leagues and one for each Friendly trophy. At the end of the season (when Through the Omenpaths releases), you'll earn every avatar for which you qualify.

Earning at least five points gets you the uncommon Cosmogrand Zenith avatar.

Earning at least 20 points nabs you the rare Mm'menon, the Right Hand avatar.

Earning 40 points or more rewards you with the mythic rare Tezzeret, Cruel Captain avatar.

Odds and Ends

Thanks for being part of our community, and we’ll see you on the battlefield!
