Pack Wars! Mini-Master Comes to MTGO Tomorrow
Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but on MTGO it’s Pack Wars! This format debuts during tomorrow’s downtime and our first format of choice is Aetherdrift.

There will be two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats: a Keeper Double-Elimination League, and a 2-Player Phantom Queue.
Get all the details in today’s Edge of Eternities set article!
Downtime Tomorrow – 9 a.m. to Noon PT
Magic Online will be down for scheduled maintenance tomorrow, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon PT (16:00-19:00 UTC). Be sure to follow our social media links above for info on when we will return as well as any adjusted start times for pre-empted Scheduled Events.
EVENT UPDATES
Vintage Cube League Wraps at Downtime Tomorrow
This round of Vintage Cube League concludes with tomorrow’s downtime. If you’re still holding onto a Vintage Cube Entry Token, be sure to use them up before the League ends – there are no refunds for unused Tokens.
MTGO Spellgrounds
Great news – our Spellgrounds project continues! Try out a slice of the current Pauper metagame until tomorrow’s downtime – all with sideboards geared specifically for this group – all for free!
You’ll encounter a Super-Jump style draft – 3 of the 6 decks are presented randomly for you to select one. Then play up to 3 matches without the pressure of prizes on the line.
This week’s Pauper lists are live now on this Moxfield page.
We're re-jiggering the future schedule a bit, so no Spellgrounds next week due to the launch of Edge of Eternities. Here’s the list of upcoming Spellgrounds events:
- July 28 – None (Edge of Eternities launch)
- August 4 – Legacy
- August 11 – Modern
- August 18 – Standard
- August 25 - None (Vintage Cube Preview League)
We hope you find this is a no- or low-risk way to expand your horizons in Magic Online and it’s a great way to learn new formats!

PREMIER PLAY
No Premier Play This Weekend – Normal Scheduled Event Schedule in Place
We don’t have any Premier events this weekend due to EOE Prerelease Weekend tabletop tournaments around the world. We still have our full suite of Format Challenges, Phantom Sealed Trials, and other Scheduled Events taking place, so be sure to get in on the action!
Season 2 QP Expiration Coming Soon
We’re closing in on the end of MOCS Season 2 qualifying. You have until the morning of Wednesday, August 13 to collect the last batches. If you’ve been holding on to the blue Season 2 Qualifier Points, you’re running low on chances to use them – but not as low as usual ...
Here’s the full list of remaining Premier Events taking these QPs:
- August 2-10 – Showcase Challenges (Pauper, Legacy, Modern, Standard – in that order)
- August 8 – EOE Limited Qualifier
- August 10-13 – Showcase Last Chance Events
- These require Tickets/Play Points in addition to QPs to enter
Additionally, we have several events that will take the QPs after August 13 that will take Season 2 QPs due to upcoming schedule congestion:
- August 15 – Modern Qualifier
- August 22 – EOE Limited Super Qualifier
- We are finalizing next season’s schedule and there could be a change to which Season the September 1 Modern Super Qualifier will be assigned. We will advise in the next couple weeks.
Finally, no decision has yet been made regarding draft queues that may accept leftover QPs after season’s end. We’ll announce that in the next couple weeks as well.
ALTERNATE PLAY

Magic Online Judge Open League Continues Through Thursday
Several of us on the MTGO Game Team are former high-level Judges, and the entire team is appreciative of the benefits provided to the Magic community by members of Judge programs around the world. We are celebrating that effort by having another Magic Online Judge Open (or MOJO for short)!
For those who signed up in time and received a Limited Point object to play in MOJO, the League continues until this Thursday, July 24 at 10 p.m. PT (05:00 Friday UTC). It’s a Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™ Phantom Sealed League with 4 matches and pack-per-win prizes of FIN boosters.
If you heard about it too late or otherwise missed out this time, we are planning another MOJO League during the holidays.
