THE LEAD 

It’s Pioneer Championship Week! (Finals on Saturday)

Complete one of the following feats this week in order to earn a Pioneer Point:

• Complete a 5-0 Pioneer League course
• Finish 4-0 or 3-1 in a Pioneer Preliminary
• Top 8 a Pioneer Challenge 32 event

That Pioneer Point is good for free entry into the Pioneer Championship Week Finals this Saturday, July 19 at 7:00 a.m. PT. Unlike other Finals events of this type, you are able to directly enter the finals with the entry options of 40 Event Tickets or 400 Play Points!

Prizes for the Finals will be the same as a Super Qualifier, but without invitations or Leaderboard Points. In addition, the Top 32 finishers and those with the same record as 32^nd place will receive an event-exclusive version of the Pioneer Showcase avatar – Heartfire Hero!

As usual, you can only enter one of your accounts in the Finals event, and excess Pioneer Points will be cleared from accounts next week.

Vintage Cube League Continues

It’s for another round of Vintage Cube. This iteration features some new overarching themes involving old favorites as well as the debut of cards from Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™. The Vintage Cube Draft Bundle is still available until next Tuesday - $27 USD for 3 Vintage Cube Draft Tokens good for play in the League plus a bundle-exclusive Vivi Ornitier avatar. If you purchase this Bundle, be sure to use up your Tokens before the next downtime on July 23 when the League ends – there are no refunds for unused Tokens.

Sign Up for Edge of Eternities Beta – This Weekend!

Want to help us squish bugs and test card functionality while getting a first look at the newest set? MTGO’s Closed Beta Program is just the place!

Our normal Cardset betas involve playing a selection of complicated cards against a curated set of wordy and weird cards from MTGO’s history. A Sealed Deck League will be available and Commander games are encouraged. The goal is to ensure we release a quality product, so we appreciate all the help we can get – sign up today!

To apply for the program, submit a ticket at help.mtgo.com - choose Apply to Beta Program as the subject, fill out the form and agree to Terms. If you're admitted to the Program, you will be invited to join us for the EOE Beta round starting this Friday, July 18.

MTGO Spellgrounds Returns

Great news – our Spellgrounds project continues! Try out a slice of the current Modern metagame until tomorrow – all with sideboards geared specifically for this group – all for free!

You’ll encounter a Super-Jump style draft – 3 of the 6 decks are presented randomly for you to select one. Then play up to 3 matches without the pressure of prizes on the line.

This week’s Modern lists are live now on this Moxfield page. Next week’s Pauper Spellgrounds lists will be available later this week – watch Discord for the link.

PREMIER PLAY

FIN Limited Super Qualifier This Sunday – Last RCQ for This Round

There’s just one event left on MTGO to qualify for the next round of Regional Championships via an online Qualifier tournament.

We’ll have a Limited RC Super Qualifier that kicks off this Sunday, July 20 at a special start time of 6 a.m. PT (13:00 UTC)! Because it features Magic: The Gathering® - FINAL FANTASY™ for both Sealed Deck and the Top 8 Draft, the entry options have changed – 50 Event Tickets, 500 Play Points, or 40 Season 2 Qualifier Points.

The prizes are also increased for this tournament only – check out the end of this article for the full prize table.

The Top 4 finishers get invited to the October-November RC round and prizes extend down to 128^th place!

If you don’t qualify here, your last route to those RCs involves our highest-level MOCS events in August & September.

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Edge of Eternities. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• Now through July 23 – A three-week run of the one and only Magic Online Vintage Cube – need we say more? (Phantom)
• July 23-29 – We close out FIN season with Supreme Draft – the high-power, draft-two-and-toss-em format. (Phantom)

When Do Vintage Cube Leagues Return?

• Now through July 23 – Summer Refresh
• August 27-September 17 – Edge of Eternities Refresh

Magic Online Judge Open League Starts Friday

Several of us on the MTGO Game Team are former high-level Judges, and the entire team is appreciative of the benefits provided to the Magic community by members of Judge programs around the world. We are celebrating that effort by having another Magic Online Judge Open (or MOJO for short)!

For those who signed up in time and received a Limited Point object to play in MOJO, the League begins this Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) and runs until next Thursday, July 24 at 10 p.m. PT (05:00 Friday UTC). It’s a Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™ Phantom Sealed League with 4 matches and pack-per-win prizes of FIN boosters.

If you heard about it too late or otherwise missed out this time, we are planning another MOJO League during the holidays.
