Read All About It - Vintage vs. Type 1 Fundraiser This Week, Streams October 4-5

Magic Online is pleased to again be part of a fundraiser for Breakthrough T1D (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) hosted by Magic luminary Brian David-Marshall. A number of Brian’s friends will be competing in a Vintage Cube trophy race the first few days of October on their own streams.

Then MTGO.com will host a stream on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) on our Twitch channel featuring some super-secret guest stars, then on Sunday Brian will flit around to different streams to catch the end of the trophy race.

You can donate now to unlock those rewards – check out the article for full details! Donations convert into free Vintage Cube Drafts starting Wednesday, event-exclusive avatars, or even turn on All-Access until Monday, October 13! In addition, if you donate via the page of the featured streamer with the most trophies or the most money raised, you’ll get an exclusive Breakthrough avatar.

Our community raised over $15,000 in last year’s event, so we’re looking to better that record this year.

Vintage Cube League Returns Tomorrow

In one of the quicker turnarounds we’ve ever had, the Vintage Cube will be back again starting next Wednesday, October 1. This time it will be to support the upcoming MOCS Showcase which will air Sunday, October 12, as well as the Vintage vs. Type 1 charity fundraiser that culminates October 4-5.

For $27 USD, you get the following:

• 3 Vintage Cube Draft Tokens – each Token is an entry option into a League course until downtime on October 22 – a savings of $1 per draft!

Preview League Lasts 1 More Day

Until tomorrow morning, you’ll be able to play single-game matches of the new Cube for free!

Try out some wacky strategies and learn how to find your draft lane – all in preparation for the real League starting tomorrow.

The Free Vintage Cube Preview League runs until tomorrow, October 1 at 5 a.m. PT (12:00 UTC).

In order to enter the League, you’ll need to get yourself Draft Points. How do you acquire those? Enter the code SEPT2025 into the box in the MTGO Store as shown below.

You can only redeem the code once on your account, but you will receive 2 Draft Points. Spend one of them to enter the draft queue, then play up to three single games with your Phantom draft deck. Then repeat this process once.

If you win any of those six games, you’ll receive an event-exclusive avatar featuring Fleem, Goben’s Creation!

We’ll clear out any leftover Draft Points once the League ends. Enjoy the Preview!

PREMIER PLAY

It's Showcase Challenge Weekend

MOCS Season 3 rolls on, so it’s time to qualify more players for the next round of Showcase Qualifiers in December. 

It takes 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points to enter a Showcase Challenge. The Top 8 finishers in each event earn a Championship Entry Token for the event’s format plus earn Leaderboard Points toward an At-Large berth in the next Showcase!

Be sure to review the MTGO Calendar as this season’s Showcase Challenges do not follow the normal cadence.

Standard RC Super Qualifier Friday

Through the Omenpaths joins the fray in the battle for seats at next year’s first round of tabletop Regional Championships!

MTGO is hosting a Standard RC Super Qualifier this Friday at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC).

It takes 40 Event Tickets, 400 Play Points or 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points to enter a Super Qualifier. The Top 4 finishers are invited to the RC round of 2026 in January-February, and prizes pay down to the Top 128!

EVENT UPDATES

Modern Gold League Ending Today

Due to poor queue health and extended wait times, the Modern Gold League is being retired as of this morning. Players with active courses will be refunded entry and given prizes earned to this point.

Duel Commander Unbans In Place Now

The Duel Commander Committee made some changes in their bi-monthly Banned and Restricted Update yesterday – in all, five cards were unbanned:

• Unbanned from the 99
  • Loyal Retainers
• Unbanned as Commanders
  • Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar
  • Baral, Chief of Compliance
  • Esior, Wardwing Familiar
  • Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary

Pack Wars! Strixhaven Continues

Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but on MTGO it’s Pack Wars! This format is up and running and our next set in the spotlight are the hallowed halls of Strixhaven: School of Mages.

There are two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats: a Keeper Swiss League, and a 2-Player Phantom Queue.

Strixhaven runs until Wednesday, October 8, then it will be time for Throne of Eldraine to take over!

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• October 1-22 – These are the weeks where the Vintage Cube League returns to support the next MOCS Showcase broadcast on Sunday, October 12! (Phantom)
• October 22-November 18 – Season of the Cube!
• October 22-29: Chris Wolf’s Supremely Vintage Cube (a special card list optimized for the pick-2-and-discard format)
• October 29-November 5: Frank Lepore returns for year three of his Halloween Horror Cube
• November 5-12: The best that MTGO Creators have to offer will be featured in Creator Cube
• November 12-18: The favorite Cube from the format’s largest convention gets time in the limelight in CubeCon Cube

When Do Vintage Cube Leagues Return?

• October 1-21 – Update to support MOCS
• November 26-December 3 – The No Holds Barred variant returns

CubeCon 2025 – October 16-19

Magic Online is proud to partner with CubeCon, the world’s largest gathering of competitive Cube players. This year’s event will be held Thursday-Sunday, October 16-19 in Madison, Wisconsin. For ticket information as well as which Cubes will be played, visit cubecon.org.

For the third year in a row, MTGO will be providing digital prizes to players who finish in the Top 128 of the CubeCon Main Event, as well additional goodies for all CubeCon attendees! The Top 8 will draft a real-life version of MTGO’s Vintage Cube (not for keeps, though).

The CubeCon community will also get to vote on a Cube to be featured in MTGO for a week in November – more details on that in future weeks.

Magic Online is pleased to bring you weekly streams from some of our top creators. We’ve teamed up with YungDingo to show off MTGO at a regular time each week.

YungDingo takes the reins Friday nights at 6 pm PT (01:00 Saturday UTC) streaming at twitch.tv/magiconline.

Edge of Eternities redemption tokens are now on sale! Check out our Redemption page for full program rules and inventory levels. As a reminder, the game itself is the most current place to determine if there is stock remaining for Redemption Tokens.

Also, Through the Omenpaths is not a redeemable set.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm regular redemptions remain on sale in the MTGO Store (only 10% of stock remains), though foil-for-regular have sold out.

MTGO University Is Now MTGO TV!

We are making some small changes to our University channel. Don't worry, it isn't going away, we are just adding more to it.

We’ve introduced a brand-new landing spot for everything related to getting your new-to-MTGO friends up to speed on playing our game – MTGO TV! Whether you’re new to a specific format, new to Magic Online, or are just curious about what this version of MTG is all about, check out the MTGO University playlists on YouTube.

In addition, we will be featuring other content from our creators here, including new shows and previous Creator Showdowns.

Card Fixes

• Lyzolda, the Blood Witch will correctly deal damage and/or draw a card when the proper-colored creature is sacrificed.
• Storm Elemental’s second ability will function correctly.

Duel Scene

• The new Yield to All button will respect Always Yes/Always No choices previously made for triggers.

Collection

• The new Nuturing Peatland retro promo will display its correct rarity.
