Congratulations Kanister, 2026 Season 2 MOCS Showcase Champion! 

Eight of Magic Online’s top competitors gathered this weekend to earn their share of $50,000 and two invitations to the 2027 World Championship. In the end, it was Piotr Głogowski, known to legions of stream fans as Kanister, who collected a landmark victory! 

The day began with Vintage Cube, and the prolific Polish professional was the top performer. Kanister’s black-green build featured Survival of the Fittest as a key engine. Standing in the way in the pod finals was Canada’s Asha Mills Emmett – the end boss of Vintage Cube with an eye-popping 67% lifetime win rate! Asha sported a blue-red spellslinger brew with Headliner Scarlett as the top finisher.

In the decisive Game 3, Kanister ramped out a quick Alpha Deathclaw that got monstrous and crashed through to victory!

Then in the Modern rounds, Asha bounced back by commanding Kozilek and other Eldrazi all the way. In the finals, Asha’s opponent was David Dunitza of Germany playing Izzet Affinity. The decisive third game saw Sire of Seven Deaths and Emrakul, the Promised End tower over everything in sight en route to the finals.

The Championship round was a rematch of the Vintage Cube pod finals, but this time with Kanister piloted Esper Ketramose. This relatively quiet player in the metagame is a control deck that employs Psychic Frog as both enabler and finisher alongside its namesake engine card. The flying amphibian sealed the final game and a 2-0 sweep for Kanister.

Kanister took home $13,000 as Champion and collected his fifth career Top Finish – a mark that will get him onto the next Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame ballot in 2028.

Meanwhile, Asha earned $11,000, and both players are the first to qualify for the Magic World Championship in 2027!

Be sure to follow our social channels for updates. The 9 a.m. Modern Challenge will be rescheduled at the 64 level 30 minutes after downtime ends or 12:30 p.m. PT, whichever is later.

Vintage Cube League Ends at Downtime Tomorrow

Remember to use the Tokens in the Vintage Cube League by downtime tomorrow – they will be cleared from accounts at that time and are non-refundable.

PREMIER PLAY 

Vintage RC Qualifier This Sunday

Your next chance to reach the first Regional Championship round of 2027 comes up on Sunday!

A Vintage RC Qualifier begins this Sunday, September 27 at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC).

RC Qualifier events only accept 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points as an entry option, pay out prizes to Top 64, and send the Top 2 finishers to the January-February RC in their home regions.

The Lord of the Rings™ “Block” Sealed League Starts Tomorrow

We have reached the end of the season starring Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™. What better way to have a last bit of fun with the set than to mash it up with its predecessor?

Following tomorrow's downtime, enjoy a unique Sealed Deck experience that mimics the block formats of old: 4 regular boosters of The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™ and 2 Play Boosters from the latest set. It’s The Lord of the Rings™ “Block” Sealed League!

Entry Options for this event include 20 Event Tickets or 200 Play Points. You can also join with 6 boosters (4 regular LTR & 2 HOB Play) plus either 3 Event Tickets or 30 Play Points.

Prizes for this 3-round play experience are:

• 3-0 – 200 Play Points, 4 LTR regular boosters, 2 HOB Play Boosters, 1 The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™ Special Edition booster, and 2 MOCS Season 3 Qualifier Points.
• 2-1 – 200 Play Points, 1 LTR regular booster, and 1 HOB Play Booster.

The League ends when Realty Fracture events go live next Tuesday, September 29.

Pack Wars Core Set 2020 Continues

Pack Wars – the Magic Online space for Mini-Master – rolls on. Our meandering adventure across the multiverse continues with a trip to a decidedly themeless sector with Core Set 2020.

The idea is simple – crack a pack, add 2 of each basic land, and play a game. In the Keeper League, you then crack another pack, edit your deck, play a game ... and keep going until you have opened 4 packs and played 4 games!

This Keeper League is easy – 4 packs + 4 games (plus prizes if you do well) for just 4 Event Tickets or 40 Play Points!

Core Set 2020 continues until September 30, after which it’s replaced by the original Modern Masters.

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT unless otherwise noted.

Combo Improvements Now Live

We're excited to debut some quality-of-life enhancements for combo players. Changes have been made with speeding up both CEDH play and well as long-standing combos in 60-card decks!

With a little setup using existing yields/auto-choices and new menu options, you can achieve max efficiency:

• Making Treasure over and over and don’t care what color mana it produces? Get it down to 1 click per Treasure.
• Splinter Twin and Pestermite? 1 click per loop (2 for Deceiver Exarch).
• Two creatures that can blink each other and a creature that drains when a creature enters/leaves play? 1 click per loop.
• Melira Combo? 2 clicks per loop.
• Legacy Bomberman (Auriok Salvagers/Lion’s Eye Diamond)? A little better - 6 clicks per loop.
• And so much more ...

TOMORROW'S PATCH NOTES – September 23, 2026

Card Fixes

• Emperor of Bones will not reanimate creatures exiled with Agatha’s Soul Cauldron.
• Armored Skyhunter will correctly put revealed cards on the bottom of the deck if nothing is selected.
• Loot, the Pathfinder will correctly add extra mana with Badgermole Cub in play.
• Rise from the Wreck will have clearer prompt language and workflow.
• Venom, Deadly Devourer will correctly add counters equal to the exiled creature’s toughness.

Collection

• Cards that were downshifted to common in Secret Lair Zeta will be legal in Pauper – except for the newly banned Narcomoeba and Price of Progress.

Duel Scene

• If an auto-saved target would become invalid when later prompted to target, the automation will end, and the controller will be prompted to choose a valid target.
  • Example: An auto-saved target of Orcish Bowmasters is given hexproof in response. Then later, Orcish Bowmasters triggers again.
• Cards with saved automation (auto-yield, save targets), including those in the graveyard, will no longer be highlighted in the same manner as cards with available game actions.
• Madness triggers will indicate the madness cost on the stack.

Play Lobby

• Buddy Matches that you aren’t able to join will be sorted to the bottom of the list. If you can join a Buddy Match, it will instead sort to the top.
