Reality Fracture on Magic Online

Welcome to an alternate reality, an Echoverse, brought to you by Jace ... er, the Theorist.

The five schools at Hexhaven Academy join the fray when Reality Fracture (set code FRA) debuts on Magic Online next Tuesday, September 29 at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC).

The downtime to add this set to the game will happen tomorrow, September 23, from 9 a.m. to approximately 12 noon Pacific time (16:00-19:00 UTC). Be sure to follow our social media outlets (Discord, BlueSky and more) to keep real-time tabs on this release and any replacement Scheduled Events.

We have packed a head-spinning amount of new stuff into the next eight weeks. Highlights include:

• 10 Commander Decks, including 5 featured in a refreshed Commander Gauntlet and 4 more from the rapidly dwindling Commander Backlog, and
• Our first Standard Championship Week that starts October 4.

How to Collect and Play Reality Fracture

Play Boosters

Each FRA Play Booster will sell for $3.99 USD in the Magic Online Store starting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT and contains 1-4 rare/mythics.

As a reminder, Reality Fracture has an echoed pair in each Play Booster – this can be uncommon, rare, or mythic rarity! 

For this set, the composition is:

• 6 non-foil commons
  • 1 in 55 Play Boosters will have a common replaced by a Special Guest card
• 1 non-foil unpaired uncommon
• 1 non-foil “mildcard” - a common or unpaired uncommon
• 2 non-foil cards that form an echoed pair
• 1 non-foil card that is part of an echoed pair
  • This slot can include Borderless versions
• 1 non-foil unpaired rare or mythic
  • This can include Borderless and Booster Fun versions
• 1 foil wildcard – a foil in every pack!
  • Paired or unpaired, normal frame or Booster Fun
• 1 basic land – standard-frame, tap-dual, or full-art, in either non-foil or foil

Magic Online's exclusive Premium Booster returns!

The 11-card Reality Fracture Premium Booster will sell for $6.99 USD in the Store starting next Tuesday. Here’s the layout – each Premium booster contains 5 rares/mythics and 9 foils:

• 2 traditional foil uncommons
• 1 traditional foil unpaired uncommon
• 1 traditional foil paired uncommon
• 1 traditional foil uncommon of either type
  • Unpaired uncommons can be Booster Fun

FRA Draft Bundle

The Draft Bundle is back with Reality Fracture.

Thie idea is “Buy 3, Pay Less” – plus get an avatar! The Draft Bundle will sell for $32.00 USD in the Magic Online Store starting next Tuesday. That represents a $4 savings off buying Event Tickets to cover those events.

The Draft Bundle contains three Draft Entry Tokens which can be used to enter the Reality Fracture Draft League during its first three weeks, plus this set’s avatar exclusive to this product: Liliana the Repentant!

Neither the Bundle nor its contents are tradeable.

• Events: These Tokens are only for the Draft League, not single-elimination.
• Expiration: Draft Entry Tokens must be used in the first three weeks of League play – they expire Wednesday, October 21 at 10 a.m. PT. Unused Tokens will be removed at that time and are non-refundable!
  • The Bundle will leave the store on Tuesday, October 20.

Reality Fracture Commander

This set has one new Commander deck for you to enjoy (set code FRC). Jace, Multiverse Architect leads the four-color Multiverse Reforged deck. This unique take on the polymorph archetype features 18 brand-new cards plus a suite of reprints. The deck will sell for $29.99 USD in the Store starting next Tuesday.

Commander Corner

Four More Commander Backlog Decks On Sale Tomorrow!

Our team crunched through nearly all remaining cards found in deck products of the Commander Backlog over a recent 4-week period. In all, we have 4 decks to add to our Store following tomorrow's downtime.

Each deck will cost $29.99 USD and is playable right out of the box. They contain a minimum of 10 cards that were new to Magic at the time of their tabletop release.

What's Next on the Backlog

Our end goal for this project is to have as much of what's been printed over the last 30 years as possible – our card catalog is deep! While not all versions of cards will be available on Magic Online, the target is to maximize the number of unique card names.

We now entering the second tier of the Commander Backlog – this includes the following:

• The last decks from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Commander and Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate
• Zendikar Rising Commander decks
• Commander Legends: Battle at Baldur’s Gate main set
• Jumpstart 2022
• A selection of cards from Unfinity
• Mystery Booster Commander
  • We’ll have more info on this set specifically closer to year’s end

The team hasn't yet mapped out our timetable for getting these cards complete as they can only be worked on between normal development cycles.

Also, thanks to community feedback, we are looking into our options for getting the older decks in the Commander series more exposure – this includes special Gauntlet events and returning them to the Store.

For New Players

Commander Gauntlet Refresh Next Week, Plus Buy the Decks!

Foundations Commander makes its debut alongside Reality Fracture - five decks that highlight the core themes of each individual section of the color pie. They are perfect for those just starting out with Magic Online and Commander. The decks are:

• White - Calling All Angels
• Blue – Keen Engineering
• Black – Wretched Ranks
• Red – Reign of Dragons
• Green – Tramplesaurus Rex

Starting next Tuesday, these five decks will be available for play in the Commander Gauntlet League. This Phantom League is comprised of three single-game duels and can be joined either with Event Tickets, Play Points, or the Commander Gauntlet token provided after upgrading a Basic Account.

Additionally, these all-reprint decks will be available in the Store for $19.99 USD each under the For New Players tab.

New Starter Kit – Elves and Goblins

Players who are new to Magic Online have another entry-level product to help them acclimate the game when FRA debuts.  Our Elves and Goblins Starter Kit includes two 60-card, typal-strategy decks playable in Standard out of the box. You can see the decks’ contents here.

The Starter Kit will sell for $12.99 USD in the Store starting next Tuesday.

Event Updates

Standard Championship Week in October

We have another format championship week on tap at the end of May when Standard enthusiasts duel for a Super Qualifier’s worth of digital prizes, including an event-exclusive premium avatar for the Top 32 and ties! Keep an eye out for info on this event in next week's Blog.

Pauper Legality Update Tomorrow

As described in this article from Wizards of the Coast, Pauper legality will update with tomorrow's downtime to include the cards from Secret Lair Zeta that are entering the format for the first time. The cards are:

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and the next set release. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC, 18:00 UTC in November) unless otherwise noted.

• Tomorrow-September 29: To finish off HOB season, we’re continuing our mash-up series by combining LTR and HOB – it’s The Lord of the Rings™ “Block” Sealed. (4 LTR & 2 HOB packs - Keeper)
• September 29-October 7: Reality Fracture Limited is front and center for this week.
• October 7-28 – Vintage Cube is back with updates from the newest set. (Phantom)
• October 28-November 4 – We are still considering our options for Halloween week, including a possible 4^th week of Vintage Cube.
• November 4-10 – The tentative plan is to have a Premodern-era Keeper draft, but we are still sifting through which ones we haven’t recently run could be the best option ...

Magic Online Players Rewards (MOPR) Update

Here’s what is coming up in MOPR.

The grant on Thursday, October 1 covers September activity. It will feature all of the Promo Pack uncommons from FRA - the five charms in a foil-etched version.

Then on Monday, November 2, we’ll reward October play with foil versions of uncommons from the Braintwister series, plus a set of previously unreleased futureshifted uncommons from Mystery Booster 2!

Treasure Chest Update

Treasure Chests will update when FRA goes on sale next Tuesday – be sure to watch our BlueSky account and our Discord channel to confirm this before opening Chests.

For full details on the changes to come, check out the information page when it updates later this week. Many of your Booster Fun favorites will be available via the Treasure Chest – see the chart above.

In addition to the Commander and Set Debut slots, this update will feature a few dozen rare/mythic Cube staples in a retro frame!

After next Tuesday, the next Treasure Chest update will occur with the release of the next set on Tuesday, November 10. With just six weeks between releases, a mid-set update is being skipped this time.

Avatars

We have another new set of Avatars to show you!

New accounts created between next Tuesday and November 10 will receive the Fblthp, Impossibly Lost avatar.

Our next round of Vintage Cube starting October 7 will offer a Bundle-exclusive avatar – Jace, Reality Sculptor.

Then it’s time to bestow some Prestige! As usual, you get five points for each Competitive trophy you earn in Leagues and one for each Friendly trophy. At the end of the season (when Magic: The Gathering® | Star Trek™ releases), you'll earn every avatar for which you qualify.

Earning at least five points gets you the uncommon Ajani Unrelenting avatar.

Earning at least 20 points nabs you the rare Liliana the Faultless avatar.

Earning 40 points or more rewards you with the mythic rare Tam, the Possibility avatar.

Odds and Ends

• Reality Fracture will be redeemable. Redemption Tokens are planned to go on sale in the Store on Wednesday, October 21. Stay tuned to the Weekly Announcement Blog at com for details.
  • As a reminder, physical foil redemption sets are no longer available. You can redeem a full digital set of either non-foil or traditional foil Reality Fracture cards to get a non-foil physical set. Full details can be found here.
• Constructed and Limited events will rotate to FRA versions of the same event on release day, so make sure you complete any Leagues before the set launches.
• Reprints in Reality Fracture that are entering a format won’t become legal until the new Leagues kick off next Tuesday.
• The refreshed New Account Kit with FRA commons will be available next Tuesday when FRA goes on sale.
  • The Account Upgrade Kit, Collection Upgrade Kit, and Commander Workshop will not be updated with this set.
