Save the Date - 2026 Season 2 MOCS Showcase – Sunday, September 20 at 9 a.m. PT on YouTube 

Eight of Magic Online’s top players have earned the right to battle for their share of $50,000 & two invitations to the 2027 Magic World Championship in the 2026 MOCS Season 2 Showcase which takes place in a couple weeks. This is the pinnacle of competition on MTGO, so be sure to tune in!

Catch all the action in Vintage Cube and Modern with the powerhouse casting crew of Marshall Sutcliffe, Eli Kassis, and YungDIngo! Coverage starts Sunday, September 20 at 9 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC) only on the MTGO channel on YouTube. 

Reality Fracture Beta Begins September 18 – Sign Up Today! 

Want to help us squish bugs and test card functionality while getting a first look at the newest set? MTGO’s Closed Beta Program is just the place! Our normal Cardset betas involve playing a selection of complicated cards against a curated set of wordy and weird cards from MTGO’s history. A Sealed Deck League will be available, and Commander games are encouraged. 

To apply for the program, submit a ticket at help.mtgo.com - choose Apply to Beta Program as the subject, fill out the form, and agree to the Terms. If you're admitted to the Program, you will be invited to join us for the Reality Fracture Beta round starting next Friday, September 18. 

Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™ Draft League Extended 

By popular demand, the current set's Draft League is being extended by two weeks – it is now slated to end on Wednesday, September 16 at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC).  

The validity of the Draft Entry Tokens found within the HOB Draft Bundle have also been extended to September 16!  

Vintage Cube League Continues 

Check out Chris Wolf’s article for the latest list and archetype shake-ups with Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™. 

The Vintage Cube League is on now with the usual entry options of 10 Event Tickets or 100 Play Points. The League has been extended to a fifth week, now ending with the September 23 downtime! 

Single-elimination play is also available. You can always view the current Vintage Cube list on this page. 

As usual, we have a Vintage Cube Bundle for $27 USD. The Bundle includes 3 Vintage Cube Draft Tokens plus this set’s two exclusive Bundle avatars featuring premium foil treatments – Gandalf, Goblins’ Bane and Smaug, Wicked Wurm! 

Remember to use the Tokens in the League by downtime on September 23 – they will be cleared from accounts at that time and are non-refundable. 

WARHAMMER 40,000 Commander Decks Available Now!  

The WARHAMMER 40,000 Commander Decks are back! For a limited time, they are again on offer in the Magic Online Store. They are:

Each deck sells for $39.99 USD. Once purchased, the cards become part of your Magic Online collection for use in Legacy (#poxwalkers), Vintage, Commander, and Freeform formats.   

Cards in these decks will not be made available in Treasure Chests. The decks are only available again until the end of 2026 – be sure you don’t miss out!

PREMIER PLAY 

Pioneer RC Qualifier This Sunday 

Your next chance to reach the next available Regional Championship round comes up at a special time this Saturday! 

A Pioneer RC Qualifier begins at midnight PT on September 13 (7:00 Sunday UTC). 

RC Qualifier events only accept 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points as an entry option, pay out prizes to Top 64, and send the Top 2 finishers to the January-February RC in their home regions.

Pauper Legality Update September 23 

As described in this article from Wizards of the Coast, Pauper legality will update with our September 23 downtime to include the cards from Secret Lair Zeta that are entering the format for the first time. The cards are:

Pack Wars Alara Block Continues 

Pack Wars – the Magic Online space for Mini-Master – rolls on. Our meandering adventure across the multiverse continues with a trip to the original sharded plane of Alara. 

The idea is simple – crack a pack, add 2 of each basic land, and play a game. In the Keeper League, you then crack another pack, edit your deck, play a game ... and keep going until you have opened 4 packs and played 4 games!  

This Keeper League is easy – 4 packs + 4 games (plus prizes if you do well) for just 4 Event Tickets or 40 Play Points! The pack order for this event is Shards of Alara, then Conflux, followed by Alara Reborn, and finishing with another booster from Shards of Alara. 

 
Alara Block continues until September 16, after which Core Set 2020 will take over. Edge of Eternities will appear in Pack Wars later this year – apologies for the confusion there.

Alternate Play Schedule 

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT unless otherwise noted.  

• Now through September 16 – Edge of Eternities Competitive Sealed League 

• September 16-29 – Sealed League to be announced in next week’s Blog 

• Now through September 23 – Vintage Cube draft league returns for a summer run that supports the MOCS Showcase broadcast on September 20. (Phantom) 

• September 23-29 – To finish off HOB season, we’re continuing our mash-up series by combining LTR and HOB – it’s The Lord of the Rings™ “Block” Sealed. (4 LTR & 2 HOB packs - Keeper)

Combo Improvements Now Live 

We're excited to debut some quality-of-life enhancements for combo players. Changes have been made with speeding up both CEDH play and well as long-standing combos in 60-card decks!  

With a little setup using existing yields/auto-choices and new menu options, you can achieve max efficiency: 

• Making Treasure over and over and don’t care what color mana it produces? Get it down to 1 click per Treasure. 

• Splinter Twin and Pestermite? 1 click per loop (2 for Deceiver Exarch). 

• Two creatures that can blink each other and a creature that drains when a creature enters/leaves play? 1 click per loop. 

• Melira Combo? 2 clicks per loop. 

• Legacy Bomberman (Auriok Salvagers/Lion’s Eye Diamond)? A little better - 6 clicks per loop. 

• And so much more ...

TOMORROW'S PATCH NOTES – September 9, 2026 

Card Fixes 

• Always Yes and Always No have been added as options on large swaths of cards that say “you may” take this action: 

• • Create tokens (#GolemFoundry) 

• • Draw 

• • Exile from a zone other than the battlefield 

• • Remove or place counters 

• Braids, Conjurer Adept will correctly put chosen cards onto their owner’s battlefield, not just Braids’ controller’s side. 

Duel Scene 

• Left-clicking an ability on the stack will no longer automatically create a Yield for that ability. 

• Actions with multiple cost-paying options (Crystal Shard; Bullseye, Death Dealer; etc) will better display Save Target options. 

• Save Target actions and other Auto-Yields can now appear as a nested sub-menu after hovering over the right arrow. See example below:
