Read All About It – Contraption’s Debut with Premodern!

The newest Magic Online format is Contraption: a space for us to experiment with rulesets and community formats. First up is Premodern – the fan format that spans Fourth Edition through Scourge! Connoisseurs of the classic card frame should give this a spin.

Check out our article introducing Contraption and Premodern. The first League to showcase the format starts today as a Friendly version. Then next Wednesday, we’ll kick off a two-week Holiday League aided by All-Access.

Magic: The Gathering®– FINAL FANTASY™ Holiday Products Available Now

Magic Online is pleased to present a range of exclusive items tied to the Holiday release of Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™. These items all go on sale this Friday, December 5 at 10 a.m. PT (18:00 UTC) in the Magic Online Store.

Free Vintage Cube Preview League Early Next Week

The Free Vintage Cube Preview League kicks off next Monday, December 15 at 8 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC) and runs until Wednesday, December 17 at 5 a.m. PT (13:00 UTC).

In order to enter the League, you’ll need to get yourself Draft Points. How do you acquire those? Enter the code 2025HOLIDAYS into the box in the Magic Online Store, just as shown below.

You can only redeem the code once on your account, but you will receive 2 Draft Points. Spend one of them to enter the draft queue, then play up to three single games with your Phantom draft deck. Then repeat this process once.

Win just one of those six total games and you’ll receive this event’s only prize - a special avatar featuring Toucan-Puffin!

No Holds Barred Vintage Cube Extension

Due to continued technical issues with Supreme Draft, we have decided to extend events using the current version of the No Holds Barred Vintage Cube for one more week! The League and the Single-Elimination queue will now end next Wednesday, December 17 at 7 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC).

In order to avoid confusion, we have stopped sales of the current Vintage Cube Draft Bundle as planned. However, we will not clear unused Vintage Cube Draft Tokens as originally scheduled at the end of No Holds Barred – feel free to save them until the Holidays Vintage Cube starts next week.

However, if you still have expiring Season 3 QPs to use for free entries into the No Holds Barred Elimination Draft, the deadline remains as originally announced – tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT. We will clear those from accounts at that time.

PREMIER PLAY

MOCS Postseason Continues This Weekend

It’s time once again to qualify players for the next Magic Online Champions Showcase in January! This weekend, Top 8 finishers from Showcase Challenges and 5-win players from Last Chance events (see Premier Play below) will battle until one remains as this season’s Showcase Champion for that format.

In addition to reaching the Champions Showcase (with its $50,000 prize pool and two invitations to the 2026 World Championship), the winner of each Showcase Qualifier is invited to the second Pro Tour of 2026 plus the Regional Championship round in January-March feeding that event. Leaderboard Points are also on the line as players seek one of two At-Large invites at the end of the postseason.

If you miss out on reaching the Showcase Qualifiers, you’ll have a final shot at reaching the MOCS Showcase from one of two Limited-format MOCS Open events on December 20-21.

Pack Wars! Murders at Karlov Manor Continues

Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but we call it Pack Wars!

Murders at Karlov Manor is currently on the case, then next week Streets of New Capenna will take over for a single-week engagement.

There are two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats: a Keeper Swiss League, and a 2-Player Phantom Queue.

Redemption Corner

Check out our Redemption page for full program rules and inventory levels (updated weekly). As a reminder, the game itself is the most current place to determine if there is stock remaining for Redemption Tokens.

Edge of Eternities redemption tokens are on sale, but inventory is beginning to run low. EOE regular sets are down to their last 15%.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is now completely out of stock. Outlaws of Thunder Junction foils-for-regular remain available in small quantities

PATCH NOTES – Tomorrow, December 10

Play Lobby

• If you enter a Constructed League with one deck and then play non-League games with another deck in that format, the game will correctly display the deck registered in the League.

Card Fixes

• Ozai’s Cruelty will correctly force a target with multiple cards in hand to discard two of them.
• A phased-out Tishana’s Tidebinder will correctly stop affecting the targeted permanent.

After tomorrow, the next scheduled maintenance is Wednesday, January 14 from 9 a.m. to noon PT (17:00-20:00 UTC). This is to support the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed.
