Modern Horizons 3 Items & Events Available Today!

The biggest shakeup of the Modern metagame in three years joins MTGO today at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC)! Check out our Modern Horizons 3 set article right now for all the details on the next set:

• How to collect the different Booster Fun treatments across products, including some epic new digital-only effects on cards – Etched Foil (applies to all previous versions) and Ripple Foil
• A new suite of higher-power Commander decks, plus the debut of 5 older decks with cards completed from the Commander Backlog
• A tweak to New Player items – Tokens replacing New Player Points
• The usual updates regarding Avatars, MOPR, League timing, Treasure Chests, etc

Modern Horizons 3 Event Structures

In addition, we have a separate article detailing the entry options and prize structures for MH3 Limited events. For regular Leagues and Queues, Drafts will be 20 Event Tickets and Sealed Deck will be 35 Event Tickets. Other options using boosters and/or Play Points are available.

Collection Upgrade Kit Available

We are now offering the Collection Upgrade Kit in the MTGO Store. It’s aimed for players who created their account prior to the April 10 downtime. For $4.99 USD, the Kit provides all cards in the Account Upgrade Kit plus the five new Starter Decks.

Next Beta Test June 21

If you’re interested in becoming part of our Beta testing group, submit a ticket at help.mtgo.com - choose Apply to Beta Program as the subject, fill out the form and agree to Terms. If you're admitted to the Program, you will be invited to join us for the next Beta round that runs the weekend starting Friday, June 21.

MTGO BROADCASTS 

This Saturday: Creator Showdown Streaming All Over The Web

The crown jewel of our Creator Program offerings is our monthly Creator Showdown broadcasts. Each month, up to 64 of Magic Online’s top streamers will compete in a six-round, double-elimination tournament. All of them will be streaming at once to start the day, so find your favorites and support their channels!

When the 16 undefeated players are decided, you can follow the action on MTGO’s Twitch broadcast – where we’ll whip around from match to match with a rotating cast of commentators: this week TheWillHallEXP and Ecobaronen will be calling the action (and giveaways galore). In the end, as much as $5,000 USD will be divvied among those who emerge with one loss or less – with a reward of $1,250 for completing a 6-0 finish!

The Magic Discovery Zone Season 3 – Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT

Looking for a fun way to introduce your friends to some of Magic Online’s competitive formats? Gather around your favorite screen of choice for our new series, The Magic Discovery Zone!

Host NileJoanRivers gets coached by an MTG celebrity on the ins and outs of a featured deck in each episode. Then Nile dives into a MTGO League to practice, ask questions, and get a better understanding of the deck’s game plan. The mood here is all about fun and learning!

Season Three will highlight the Modern format. Episode 1 features celebrity coach Mason Clark returning to help Nile explore the new world with Modern Horizons 3. The live stream starts Thursday night at 5 p.m. PT (midnight Friday UTC) at twitch.tv/magiconline.

PREMIER PLAY

MH3 Super Qualifier This Weekend 

The debut of the newest set will reward four players with Regional Championship slots this weekend!

MTGO’s Limited Super Qualifier featuring Modern Horizons 3 Sealed Deck and Top 8 Draft. That tournament begins Sunday, June 16 at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC).

Because we’re using more valuable product, It takes 50 Event Tickets or 500 Play Points to enter this event, though the normal rate of 40 Season 2 Qualifier Points applied as well. The Top 4 finishers in tournament earn a seat in the September-December RC round, and prizes pay out to the Top 128 including MH3 sets to the Top 8!

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Bloomburrow. All these offerings are Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT unless otherwise noted after Phantom.

• Now-June 26—Modern Horizons 3 is center stage for these two weeks. As has become our custom, a Best-of-One League will be available during that period. (Keeper)
• June 26-July 17—Vintage Cube returns for a three-week run featuring its Summer Refresh. (Phantom)
• July 17-30—We’re lining up something good, but we aren’t ready to talk about it yet ...

PATCH NOTES – June 11, 2024

Card Fixes

• Narset, Enlightened Master will no longer allow creature cards to be played off its trigger. 
• A number of fixes related to look and feel of retro-frame cards will be applied. 
• Cards that should have white borders will be fixed so those borders are correct.
