Magic Online Vintage Cube | Reality Fracture Update
Posted on Oct 02, 2026
Hello, Cube enthusiasts! We are back with the Magic Online Vintage Cube Update, featuring new additions from Reality Fracture. The League goes live on Wednesday, October 7, as does a Vintage Cube Bundle for $27 USD. The Bundle includes 3 Vintage Cube Draft Tokens plus this set’s exclusive Bundle avatar – Jace, Reality Sculptor!

Let’s take a look at what this update has in store for us!
Ending the Madness

There is always room for a couple of niche strategies that give players opportunities to try something novel. These strategies may not see the most regular play, but we think that is a worthwhile trade-off. Still, we want to mix things up from time to time so that the promise of novelty holds true.
The madness archetype has enjoyed a long run in our Vintage Cube because it centers on some of the most iconic cards in Magic: The Gathering history. It will surely make a comeback at some point, but for now, it is making way for a number of exciting candidates from Reality Fractureand the archetypes they suggest.
Making Landfall

Reality Fracture introduces a couple of cards centered on those precious mana producers. Together with recent additions such as Mole Man, Moloid Master, they breathe fresh life into a classic but nearly forgotten Vintage Cube archetype.
Quirion Ranger is a Constructed powerhouse that aims to support consistent landfall triggers, even when Moxen replace some of the lands in your deck. Carnivorous Cultivator can provide a steady stream of lands when paired with a fetch land and can single-handedly lock opponents out of the game when paired with Strip Mine. Meanwhile, Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes and Escape to the Wilds help keep the cards flowing.
Devotion to Combo

With our recently-introduced automation tools, executing the Auriok Salvagers plus Lion’s Eye Diamond or Black Lotus combo is far more feasible without running out of time. The difficulty of completing those loops efficiently was the main reason we had kept the combo out of our regular Vintage Cube experience until now.
We are also reintroducing another old-but-new combo: Devoted Druid plus Swift Reconfiguration for infinite mana. Enlightened Tutor returns to support Painter and Grindstone, along with other artifact- and enchantment-based combos such as those mentioned above.

Historically, Selesnya has not been the most appealing color combination for Vintage Cube players—not because it is weak, but because it is not especially flashy. This update gives us an opportunity to change that.
Brightglass Gearhulk is now uniquely positioned to find a variety of combo pieces, including Zuran Orb, Fastbond, Lion’s Eye Diamond, Grindstone, and the newly introduced Swift Reconfiguration. Green also has its own take on the Auriok Salvagers combo: Marwyn, the Preserver plus Six can generate infinite mana with either Lion’s Eye Diamond or Black Lotus, while Tamiyo’s Safekeeping protects the key pieces. Who would expect to be comboed out by the Savannah player?
Red Regaining Prowess

Mono-red has been a fading archetype since Boros rose to dominance. We are always mindful of keeping those aggressive slots to a minimum because Boros remains the strongest archetype even after trimming its numbers. The cards entering with this update, however, are not an ideal fit for a traditional Boros build. Instead, they support mono-red and Izzet spellslinger strategies.

We have also seen the rise of The Fantasticar, which these decks regain access to in this update. Red was previously centered heavily on creatures, but double spells such as Lava Dart and cards with prepare or adventure go a long way toward enabling the Vintage-restricted vehicle.
Time to Cube!
Those are the major shifts, but don’t go just yet! There are plenty more exciting candidates from Reality Fracture and additional changes we have not covered here. Check out the full change list with design comments below, and, as always, happy cubing, everyone!

Changelist
| Color | Color | OUT | Design Comment | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| White | Auriok Salvagers | White | Wrath of God | Auriok Salvagers enters to combo with Lion's Eye Diamond and Black Lotus. Wrath of God has been less impressive recently, and white still has access to sweepers through Damn and Sunfall, so we are giving the original a rest. |
| White | Enlightened Tutor | Orzhov | Vindicate | Enlightened Tutor supports a variety of old and new combos, including Painter's Servant plus Grindstone and Thopter Foundry plus Sword of the Meek. Vindicate has seen better days, so we are benching it for now. |
| White | Swift Reconfiguration | White | Ephemerate | Swift Reconfiguration enters to combo with Devoted Druid while doubling as a reasonable removal spell in Brightglass Gearhulk's toolbox. Ephemerate has moved in and out of the Cube several times, and with Eternal Witness also being benched, we are taking it out for now. |
| Blue | Bilbo, Thief in the Night | Blue | High Tide | Bilbo has impressed enough in Constructed formats to warrant a test run in our main Vintage Cube. High Tide remains among the less successful combo strategies, and we have added several other combos recently, so we do not feel the need to keep it around. |
| Blue | Seasoned Cryomancer | Dimir | Master of Death | Seasoned Cryomancer is a discard outlet that can also be discarded for value—two qualities that play well in Vintage Cube—so we are giving it our seal of approval. |
| Blue | Sphinx of False Conclusions | Blue | Time Warp | We expect the play pattern of casting the self-reanimating Sphinx at instant speed, removing an attacker, and then swinging the battle in your favor to be very effective in today's Vintage Cube environment, so we are taking it for a spin. Time Warp could work well with the Sphinx, but it is a little past its prime, so we are trying the Cube without it for now. |
| Black | Sanctum Lurker | Black | Twilight Diviner | Sanctum Lurker is an interesting one. Its immediate effect is not huge, but black always appreciates life gain. Granting planeswalkers a form of immortality is difficult to evaluate, but the potential is powerful enough that we are willing to give it a shot. Being a two-for-one at worst is another strong selling point. |
| Black | Vraska's Final Mercy | Black | Gollum, Riddle Master | Vraska's Final Mercy is a potential upgrade to Infernal Grasp and/or Night's Whisper. We are not yet sure which one it should replace, so we have added it alongside them to see how it plays. |
| Red | Monastery Swiftspear | Red | Anger | Read all about this change in the article above. |
| Red | Dead // Gone | Red | Chainsaw | Dead // Gone uniquely gives red a way to answer larger threats without spending multiple burn spells and/or creatures to deal with them. |
| Red | Embereth Shieldbreaker | Red | Scrapwork Mutt | With more artifact-centered combos and strategies in the Cube, we wanted another way to combat them. Battle Display does that job well, so we are bringing it back to break some shields. |
| Red | Flashback | Red | Melded Moxite | Flashback seems well positioned in this iteration, particularly in the prowess archetype or simply as a way to cast Time Walk again. |
| Red | Gandalf, Goblins' Bane | Red | The Legend of Roku | Gandalf plays well with the prowess creatures, many of which are Wizards, while providing affordable card advantage and a heavily prowess-boosted body of his own. |
| Red | Lava Dart | Red | Squee, Goblin Nabob | Lava Dart is a strong enabler for The Fantasticar and is well known in Constructed for pushing prowess threats over the top. |
| Red | Pompous Battlemage | Gruul | Territorial Kavu | Pompous Battlemage is another prowess creature with a built-in trigger that also functions as a discard outlet. That is a strong package for a single mana. |
| Red | Samut, Hazoret's Champion | Red | Robber of the Rich | Robber of the Rich still performs well, but we do not want to flood the Cube with too many efficient creatures when those cards are already dominant. We are replacing it with Samut to compare granting haste to everything with the Rogue's conditional card advantage. |
| Red | Slickshot Show-Off | Red | Tersa Lightshatter | Slickshot Show-Off replaces Tersa as we shift the focus away from discarding and toward casting cheap noncreature spells to strengthen our red threats. |
| Red | Soul-Scar Mage | Red | Thor, God of Thunder | Thor is a fun interaction with Fireblast and Pyrokinesis, but it is also a little slow. We may bring it back in the future. |
| Red | Stingcaster Mage | Red | Magda, Brazen Outlaw | Vintage Cube has become more focused on playing to the battlefield in recent years. With an increasing number of well-statted creatures, Magda has had difficulty attacking and accruing value, so we are benching it for now. Stingcaster Mage should play extremely well on its own while supporting the incoming prowess archetype. |
| Colorless | Mutagenic Growth | Green | Channel | Channel has moved in and out of the Cube and now survives more on nostalgia than performance, so we are comfortable cycling it out again. Mutagenic Growth is a hallmark prowess enabler, so it is coming in to show off. |
| Green | Carnivorous Cultivator | Green | Satyr Wayfinder | Read all about Carnivorous Cultivator in the article above. |
| Green | Devoted Druid | Green | Sylvan Caryatid | Devoted Druid enters to combo with Swift Reconfiguration while also pairing well with Badgermole Cub. |
| Green | Elvish Reclaimer | Green | Town Greeter | Elvish Reclaimer further supports Dark Depths while also enabling landfall triggers. |
| Green | Garruk, Curse Breaker | Green | Sandstorm Salvager | Five-mana planeswalkers are unquestionably declining in viability in modern Vintage Cube, but this one packs a punch, so we are willing to take it for a spin. |
| Green | Marwyn, the Preserver | Green | Mutagen Man, Living Ooze | As mentioned in the article above, Marwyn supports landfall triggers and combines with Six and Lion's Eye Diamond or Black Lotus to create a do-it-yourself Bomberman combo. |
| Green | Quirion Ranger | Green | Avacyn's Pilgrim | Quirion Ranger and Badgermole Cub are known partners in Constructed, and with the additional landfall payoffs we have received recently, we expect the Ranger to perform well here. |
| Green | Tamiyo's Safekeeping | Green | Eternal Witness | With more permanent-based combos in the Cube, we expect Tamiyo's Safekeeping to be a good fit for protecting them. Emeritus of Abundance effectively replaces Eternal Witness while offering a body better suited to today's environment, so we are benching Witness for now. |
| Colorless | Ginger, Queen of Sweets | Colorless | Triplicate Titan | Ginger hits the sweet spot as a secondary Tinker target that can take over the game early while remaining castable in Workshop-style decks. The Brute tokens are also good at protecting and reclaiming the monarchy. |
| Colorless | Engineered Explosives | Multicolor | Leovold, Emissary of Trest | Engineered Explosives is another nod to The Fantasticar on both fronts: it helps enable the Vehicle as a zero-mana spell and can efficiently remove opposing tokens. It also plays well with Emry and Lurrus. |
| Red | Pyrite Spellbomb | Colorless | Bazaar of Baghdad | Pyrite Spellbomb is a classic way to win once you have assembled the Bomberman combo. |
| Colorless | The Echoverse Fulcrum | Green | Survival of the Fittest | The Echoverse Fulcrum takes over the role of Scrapwork Mutt and Melded Moxite as a discard outlet for Goblin Welder. It also provides a colorless sweeper that Reanimator decks can use effectively, partially replacing Wrath of God. |
| Gruul | Escape to the Wilds | Multicolor | Loot, the Pathfinder | Read all about this change in the article above. |
| Simic | Absorbing Man | Azorius | King T'Challa | It is difficult to predict everything a card as flexible as Absorbing Man will do, but one thing is certain: it enables Dark Depths and has a solid body. That is more than enough to warrant a tryout. |
| Simic | Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes | Selesnya | Arwen, Mortal Queen | Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes helps keep the cards flowing while rewarding the Cube’s renewed focus on landfall. |
| Selesnya | Brightglass Gearhulk | Golgari | Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis | Brightglass Gearhulk can tutor for a wide range of combo pieces, including Zuran Orb, Fastbond, Lion’s Eye Diamond, Grindstone, and Swift Reconfiguration. |
