Magic: The Gathering® | Avatar: The Last Airbender™ (set code TLA) debuts on Magic Online today at 10 a.m. Pacific time (18:00 UTC)!

We’re pleased to have rolled out some new features with last week’s downtime. Check out MTGO.com to learn more about these changes.

• One big change is on the Duel Scene, where we’ve made prompt box buttons more intuitive and descriptive than just OK.
• Another change will jump out at you after logging in: the Play Now button at the top, and a slew of new ways to join a match in one or two clicks.
• A third tweak that helps both Commander players and Scheduled Event attendees with better and more precise information about those game types.

Then in another article, we’ll share our latest efforts into providing better hand holds for new players as well as an expansion of the New Player Kits contents with TLA.

• More cards added to the free-to-play New Account Starter Kit and the $4.99 USD Account Upgrade Kit starting with TLA release today.
• The New Account Starter Kit and the Starter Decks open automatically into Collection – no more fumbling through filters to right-click the Kit open and get lost.
• The Welcome Menu: A new menu for first-timers to guide them to their first play or deckbuilding experience after signing up.

Standard Showcase Challenge This Sunday 

The current MOCS season continues with another eight players taking a giant step towards the next Showcase event in January.

The Standard Showcase Challenge begins this Sunday, November 23 at 8 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC).

It takes 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points to enter a Showcase Challenge.

The Top 8 finishers earn Championship Entry Tokens used to enter that format’s Showcase Qualifier in December. Prizes in the Showcase Challenge pay out to the Top 128!

EVENT UPDATES

Duel Commander on MTGO Update

With recent changes to the Duel Commander community, there are competing sources of truth regarding the format’s Banned and Restricted List.

Because the format is community-driven and not directed by Magic Online, we are declining to choose a particular side in this dispute.

Until there is unification on this issue among the format’s stewards, Duel Commander on Magic Online will proceed as follows:

• Duel Commander Trial events will be removed from the weekly schedule effective today.
• The format’s current banned list will remain in effect on MTGO for both League play and casual play.
  • The current Duel Commander League will be extended until January 26.

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and MTGO’s Holidays. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (18:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• November 18-26: TLA is center stage for this week
  • The Best-of-One League returns for a two-week run until December 3.
• November 26-December 10 – It's the return of the No-Holds-Barred Vintage Cube – Power to the Max! (Phantom)
• December 10-17 – Chris Wolf returns with a Pick-3 variant of the Vintage Cube complete with another custom configuration: Triple Supreme Vintage Cube. (Phantom)

Pack Wars! Shadowmoor Starts Tomorrow

Attention Limited fans: We've taken a long-time favorite of Magic at big conventions and brought it into Magic Online. There are some who call it Mini-Master, but on MTGO it’s Pack Wars!

Starting tomorrow, it’s Shadowmoor for two weeks.

There are two different flavors of Pack Wars events – both of which are Best-of-One formats: a Keeper Swiss League, and a 2-Player Phantom Queue.

Redemption Corner

Edge of Eternities redemption tokens are on sale, but inventory is beginning to run low. Check out our Redemption page for full program rules and inventory levels (updated weekly). As a reminder, the game itself is the most current place to determine if there is stock remaining for Redemption Tokens.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm regular redemptions have been restocked in a limited supply. Outlaws of Thunder Junction foils-for-regular remain available in small quantities.

Through the Omenpaths and Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender are not redeemable sets.

• Everlasting Torment will correctly apply wither to noncombat sources of damage.

• The Play Now button at the top of the screen will no longer be fuzzy at higher resolutions.
