MTGO Spellgrounds

Great news – our Spellgrounds project is off and running! Try out a slice of the current Vintage metagame – all with sideboards geared specifically for this group – all for free!

You’ll encounter a Super-Jump style draft – 3 of the 6 decks are presented randomly for you to select one.

The Spellgrounds event runs Monday to Wednesday and is FREE – pick a deck and play up to 3 matches without the pressure of prizes on the line. So there’s one day left to play Vintage.

The current Vintage Spellgrounds lists are found here.

We won’t have Spellgrounds the next two weeks – a technical issue arose that prevents us from running Duel Commander in this manner, and then the following week the Vintage Cube Preview League will take that free-play slot. Spellgrounds will return on July 7 with Pioneer as a prelude to the following week’s Pioneer Championship.

We hope you find this is a no- or low-risk way to expand your horizons in Magic Online!

MTGO BROADCASTS

MeatMTG Wednesdays & YungDingo Fridays

Magic Online is pleased to bring you weekly streams from some of our top creators. We’ve teamed up with YungDingo and MeatMTG to show off MTGO at a regular time each week.

MeatMTG is streaming Wednesdays at 5:30 PM PT (00:30 Thursday UTC), while YungDingo takes the reins Monday nights at 6 pm PT (01:00 Tuesday UTC) – both at twitch.tv/magiconline.

There will be giveaways galore, including Play Point codes and their own unique in-game avatars!

MTGO x Pinfinity at Magic Con Las Vegas

Magic Online is teaming up with Pinfinity to host a booth at MagicCon Las Vegas this weekend!

If you’re attending the Con, stop by Booth 6086 on the ground floor of the convention center’s South Hall to snap pictures in our massive photo booth featuring Magic’s latest set... not to mention a host of prizes are on offer, including Edgar Markov commander pins, lanyards, and so much more!

Check out each of our content creators at the booth. 

Product Manager Tony Mayer and Senior Community Manager Torbin will be roaming the halls all weekend, eager to talk about all things Magic Online with convention goers and handing out swag as well.

PREMIER PLAY

Three RC Qualifiers This Weekend

Six more seats at the next tabletop Regional Championship round are up for grabs this weekend.

We’ll have a Legacy RC Qualifier that kicks off this Friday, June 15 at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC).

Then on Saturday and Sunday, it’s your first two chances to reach the RC playing Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™ Limited. A Limited RC Qualifier starts each day at 7 a.m. PT and featured FIN Sealed Deck with Top 8 Draft.

Each of these Qualifier tournaments require 40 Season 2 Qualifier Points to enter. The Top 2 finishers get invited to the October-November RC round and prizes extend down to 64^th place!

ALTERNATE PLAY

Battle of the Mechanics Anniversary Event Starts Next Tuesday

Magic Online celebrates its 23^rd birthday on June 24! This year we are providing a twist on Battle of the Planes, our Sealed Deck battle royale event. Starting next Tuesday, it’s Battle of the Mechanics!

Instead of five different planes, it’s five different Limited mechanical themes among which to choose: Artifacts, Domain, Enchantments, Hybrid, and Proliferate/Poison.

Each sealed pool will contain 9 boosters, so the themes should shine through and the power level is higher than normal. Here’s the breakdown of sets being opened in each theme:

• Artifacts – 3 Mirrodin, 2 Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, 2 The Brothers’ War, 2 The Lost Caverns of Ixalan
• Domain – 2 Invasion, 2 Planeshift, 2 Conflux, 3 Dominaria United
• Enchantments – 2 Theros, 3 Theros Beyond Death, 2 Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, 2 Duskmourn: House of Horror
• Hybrid – 2 Shadowmoor, 2 Eventide, 3 Throne of Eldraine, 2 Modern Horizons 3
• Proliferate/Poison - 3 Scars of Mirrodin, 2 New Phyrexia, 2 War of the Spark, 2 Phyrexia: All Will Be One

Entry to this League is 10 Event Tickets or 100 Play Points. Prizes are awarded as follows:

• 3-0 – 150 Play Points and 2 Season 2 QPs
• 2-1 – 100 Play Points
• 1-2 – 50 Play Points

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Edge of Eternities. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

• Until June 24 – Magic: The Gathering®–FINAL FANTASY™ Limited takes center stage for these two weeks.
  • The Best-of-One League returns and runs until June 26.
• June 24-July 2 – We’re celebrating MTGO’s 23^rd Birthday with Battle of the Mechanics. (Phantom)
• July 2-23 – A three-week run of the one and only Magic Online Vintage Cube – need we say more? (Phantom)
• July 23-29 – We close out FIN season with Supreme Draft – the high-power, draft-two-and-toss-em format. (Phantom)

Building off the success of Modern Madness a few months ago, we are debuting Championship Week series for our rotating MOCS formats. The first one of these series will take place next month when Pioneer is the format of choice. We’ll provide more details next month.

We’ve updated our Redemption page with new quantity percentages.

Aetherdrift regular redemptions remain on sale in the MTGO Store and Tarkir: Dragonstorm redemptions are now available as well!

Card Fixes

• Vivi Ornitier’s first ability is now correctly classified as a mana ability (fixed June 12)
• If a token Equipment created by Firion, Wild Rose Warrior makes tokens of its own (Treasure, etc), those tokens will function as expected.
• Hallowed Moonlight will correctly exile tokens created by Storm abilities like Stormscale Scion.
• Play with Fire will correctly disallow a scry if the damage to the target player is prevented.
• Prowl and Freerunning abilities will correctly only be usable if the creature deals combat damage.
• The First Eruption will correctly require a Mountain to be sacrificed in Chapter III.

The next scheduled maintenance is Wednesday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon PT (16:00-19:00 UTC). This is to support the release of Edge of Eternities.
